Pierre Jeanneret is a famous Swiss architect. In the 1950s, India had just gained independence and needed to build a new capital city. Pierre Jeanneret was responsible for designing the supporting furniture for the entire city. With the original intention of "giving citizens a chair to sit on", he combined teak with breathable rattan and thus created a world-famous chair - the Chandigarh Chair.
Later, Indians preferred modern style, so many of the furniture of that year were burned as firewood, and the number of existing furniture plummeted. By 1999, the value of the Chandigarh Chair skyrocketed in the international market.
